The affected stores are in Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington, Wyoming and Montana. The packages have a production date of April 20, 2007, a sell-by date of May 6, 2007 and a freeze-by date of May 7, 2007.
If you have meat packaging with those markings, or just to be sure, bring it back to the store you purchased it at to verify if it is part of the recall. You can also call United Food Group's 24-hour toll-free hotline at (800) 325-4164 if you have any questions.
About E. coli:
E. coli is a type of bacteria found in the lower intestines of animals(mammals). Some E. coli strains are harmless, but others can be deadly, or can cause violent stomach cramps, diarrhea, and slight fever. The symptoms can show up within 2 to 4 days, but can also show up 1 to 10 days after eating the ground beef.
